Humility is not weakness, even though it feels like it. Humility is dependence.
And many of us resist dependence with everything we have. Watch a drowning person, and you'll see it: the instinct, even as rescue arrives, is to fight the rescuer.
We do the same thing spiritually. God reaches down to pull us out, and our first move is to thrash against the very hands that would save us.
